Mid-August Trip to Florida or Washington?

Even though we are still searching for the perfect vehicle to hold our road trips for next year, we have begun planning a trip for mid to end of August to either to West Palm Beach, FL or Tacoma, WA (about 40 miles south of Seattle). The trip all depends on if we can get a van by then and if we have enough people to tag along for the trip.

The Tacoma, WA will be to a road trip to help someone move across the U.S. (from Syracuse), and the Florida trip is just if the Washington trip falls through. It would be beaches and house painting in West Palm Beach, kind of like American Pie 2.

We will be looking for places to go, things to see in both cities (especially Tacoma) , so give us your local scoop if you live there.

Van shopping is a lot harder than I thought. Maybe its how I request information, maybe its the fact that my e-mail address is from RIT that causes people to ignore my requests for more details. I don't ask much, just the general questions such as mileage, engine, transmission, rust, etc. With that said, we do like two vehicles currently on craiglist and we plan on looking at them and test driving them in the next couple weeks.

Please comment on which you think we should go for (of course your comment will be based only on the aesthetics, but if it will run for the whole year, I don't care what it looks like).

MLB Ballparks

There were several comments on one of the first posts I made involving MLB ballparks. I believe that this is a great idea, unfortunately the bulk of our traveling will occur outside of baseball season. We might be able to squeeze in one or two the first couple weeks back at school (in September) and then more when the 2010 baseball season begins.

I do like the idea, and instead maybe we will go to arenas for fall/winter sports. I would like to go to a Buffalo Bills game next, especially since TO is now a Bill. I will make sure I have the popcorn ready for his TD celebration.

Being that we go to RIT, and have a Division I hockey team, we will also look to going to some RIT away games. You can find the schedule for the upcoming hockey season here. As you can see, no real big cities, but most are not far from major cities.

Vehicle Shopping Update

Just wanted to give everyone an update on the vehicle search. One of my roommates tried to look at a potential van camper this weekend, but unfortunately the seller did not answer his phone. It is still one of the top "prospects" for our road trips. Hopefully he will call my friend back and he can verify the vehicle is in the "mechanically perfect" condition the seller states in his ad. Here are some pictures of the camper.

We are also looking at some possible van conversions if this one doesn't pan out. Again, if you know anyone that is looking to sell their camper or van, please let me know.

Vehicle Shopping

I am currently looking for a van, bus, or camper that will survive at least another 20,000 miles. We are college students, so money is a little tight (especially in this economy), but if anyone is selling or knows someone selling a vehicle that very comfortably holds 4+ people for long trips, let me know.

I have e-mailed several large companies that might have been interested in advertising on the vehicle, but got no response to date. If you are a pretty large business that caters to the northeast, please consider purchasing advertising space on our vehicle. I will do whatever it takes to help with the costs that will come from taking road trips every weekend, even if that means driving around in one big advertisement.

Welcome

Hello everybody, and welcome to my first blog ever. This blog will be all about me and my friends weekend road trips all throughout the Northeast US and Canada for our last year in college.

We do have several must-go-to places for the upcoming year, but would like any advice or suggestions. Right now we have these as a must, in no particular order:
  • New York City (about 6 hours)
  • Boston (about 6.5 hours)
  • Washington D.C. (about 7 hours)
  • Niagara Falls (about 2 hours)
  • Toronto (3 hours)
  • Montreal (about 5.5 hours)
There are several maybes, like Detroit, MI and Cleveland, OH.

We have over 30 weekends throughout the school year, and I am hoping we take a road trip for at least 20 of those weekends (we still have to finish our courses, so some weekends will be spent doing work).

Please let us know of any awesome places to visit while on the trips. We are going to try as little time as possible looking at the cities through tourist eyes, and try and get more of the local view.
